Family Forward - Peer Parent Support

Foster Kinship supports the whole family, and parents play a vital role in ensuring children live in safe, stable, and nurturing homes. Our Family Forward Program offers peer support for parents who have their children in kinship homes AND the family is working together on improving the path to reunification, co-parenting, open adoption, or another permanency outcome.

Family Forward is a caregiver-led program, meaning the kinship caregiver must opt-in to these collaborative services.

Family Forward Offers:

Emotional support and case management for willing parents who want to better understand their role in reunification and the timelines and requirements of the child welfare system- offered by a Family Advocate with lived experience in family separation and reunification.
Access to peer parent groups with parent mentors who have: experienced TPR, relinquished rights for an open kinship adoption, reunified and are successfully co-parenting with the former kinship caregiver.
Access to in-person/online TBRI classes
Access to Marcie's Heart Market
Access to Therapeutic Services (whole family)
If reunification occurs, the parent and child can continue use the services offered by our Child and Youth Program, including respite, behavioral consultations, youth support groups; as well as basic needs from Marcie's Heart

Referrals are made to the program through the kinship caregiver (who is our client first). Then we initiate work with the parent separately- so each individual has their own Foster Kinship Family Advocate.

Peer Parent Support Group

Join us for our Family Forward Peer Parent Support Group!

This group is designed for parents who have their children in kinship homes AND the family is working together on a permanency option. This group is led by professionals with first-person experience to offer valuable peer-to-peer support and guidance.

Days/Times: Every other Saturday of the month from 2:00-3:30 PM
Format: Hybrid - hosted in-person at the Foster Kinship Office and online via Google Meets
